The Banzai Pipeline, or simply "Pipeline" is a surf reef break located off Ehukai Beach Park in Pupukea on O'ahu's North Shore. It’s notorious for huge waves which break in shallow water just above a rocky and cavernous reef, forming large, hollow, thick curls of water that surfers can tuck into and ride off into a sandy channel. Below is the sonar data with the channel & sand waves on the right and the mosaic red and blue color coded reef that the wave breaks on in the middle of the image. There are three reefs at Pipeline in progressively deeper water further out to sea that activate according to the increasing size of approaching ocean swells.
